OFFICER SABER. This saber is virtually identical to the Ames model 1833 dragon saber or British 1822 light cavalry saber, 35.5" quill back blade, agent marked "A.W. SPIES" with fine detailed patriotic etched panels including a mounted dragoon. The scabbard though in somewhat poor condition shows remnants of rarely seen etching that covered most of its length originally. This sword was purchased from Jim Brown as a private purchase 1933 dragoon officers saber. CONDITION: blade is fine with much of its original frost and Polish, numerous small nicks in cutting edge. The grip is very good with complete polished leather and tight triple wire wrap. Hilt has smooth iron patina. Scabbard has heavy iron patina, several large dents, mounts both missing rings, some en suite etching is visible. PROVENANCE: Marcus Porpora lifelong sword collection. (02-26424-17/JS). NON-GUN. $600-800.
